Shame of the Nato Cowards

BBC News:
No formal offers have been made by Nato states in response to requests by commanders in Afghanistan for 2,500 extra troops, Nato says.

Members are meeting in Belgium amid pressure from the International Security Assistance Force, which is fighting in southern Afghanistan.

Of the above, it's the US, UK, Canada, and the Dutch who have have been at the nasty end of things. Germany's rules of engagement prevent deployment to the dangerous south of the country, and likewise France, Italy and Spain (amongst others) don't want to get involved where it really matters.

Meanwhile, non-Nato Australia continues to kick ass:
DURING nine days of fierce fighting in southern Afghanistan, Australian special forces killed more than 150 Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters and suffered just six men wounded.
Then again, Australia has a proper leader.

Are the Belgians (or is it the Bulgeins?) in NATO? May be their union and the Health and Safety Regs wouldn't allow them to take part in actual hostilities?

You have given me an idea.

I think that every Health and Safety officer in the UK should be sent to Iraq and Afghanistan to carry out on-the-spot checks on troops there, and make sure they are complying with regulations. Peter Mandelson should go on an unaccompanied fact-finding trip to Afghanistan's poppy fields...etc.

Agreed. An excellent idea.

In order to gain practical experience in the(ir) 'field' :-)I would like also to see all the lawyers who jump on the squaddie prosecution bandwagon, (Phil Shiner?) out there learning the ins and outs of the circumstances under which an infantryman can discharge his weapon with lethal intent. The lawyer concerned will, correctly, first try to reason, in simple English, with the opposing swarthy individual, and prerhaps persuade him of the error of his ways. If that fails, perhaps he could negotiate a bargain that he only shoots the lawyer softly in a non-critical part of his anatomy and it could themn be described as a win-win situation and both could go on their way rejoicing.

Any volunteers from the legal profession?

who on earth wants a bunch of euro gay-boys posted to the sharp end, anyway?

they'll only surrender and hand over their weapons to the mad mullahs.
so what's the point?

what is needed is a few more Para regiments AND SOME DECENT KIT, instead of the Austin Metros that this Labour Govt has bought for our lads to drive around in over there.

Poland has put the rest of them to shame, and has just announced the deployment of an extra 1000 troops. And they arent exactly a very rich country are they?

I read this morning that our friends in POLAND are stepping up and sending troops to Afghanistan.
Poland has a long and glorious history of world class warriors and this just adds further proof that that long history is continuing.

The Polish people know what it is like to be occupied by enemy forces and have suffered much this century. They know that these Islamic Fanatics must be stopped now or a situation like what happened when people did not understand the true evil of the Nazis will evolve.

Gosh! Where are those awful Americans when you really need them to tie your shoelaces?
Thank goodness France's idea of a combined European Strike Force isn't around to make the situation more embarrasing....if that's possible.
