Afghan Air Crash - 14 Britons dead

Truly awful news:
Fourteen British service personnel have died after their aircraft crashed in Afghanistan, the MoD has said.

Twelve RAF personnel, a Royal Marine and an Army soldier were among those who died in the crash in the southern province of Kandahar.

The aircraft, believed to be a Chinook, belonged to the Nato-led force which has been fighting the Taleban.

UK Defence Secretary Des Browne said "all indications are that this was a terrible accident".
Update. It was, of course, a Nimrod. The BBC's defence correspondent Paul Wood intitally reported that his sources were telling him it was a Chinook.

Yes, Curmy, it is. This government is vile and doesn't understand governance. And it doesn't value our valiant armed forces, any one of whom is worth 100,000 tony blairs.

Has a BBC correspondent blamed the Americans yet?

Bad.....heared it was a Nimrod.
If the nation cannot equip its forces efficiently, even to the detriment of Welfare leeches in the Septic Isle, it has no business playing the military game. Sending ill-equipped young men & women into war is nothing short of criminal treason.
For how long do you intend to countenance this?

Dreadful news. I really feel for their families.

This government needs to realise they cannot send young men and women to war without supplying them with safe, working equipment. It is a disgrace - these poor people should never have died because of a malfunction in an aircraft.

I'm with Permanent Expat and would go further. Shut down Welfare except for the genuinely disabled who sincerely cannot work, even as a cab despatcher or in a call centre or other job that doesn't require physical strength.

Otherwise, well ... If it's between our armed forces who, God knows, work for their living, and single mothers who have chosen Welfare as a career option, give the money to our servicemen and women and let the rest of them sink or swim. They contribute nothing. This also goes for all the Islamics on Welfare who have the leisure to print up posters and go storming around the streets of London demonstrating against the host society.

I was watching a Nimrod training over RAF Kinloss from Nairn beach on Wednesday. I hope the families will be treated well - but I fear we in Britain don't take the care we should of service Widows and children. The one thing the men who died have entrusted to us after we entrusted them with our defence.

Our condolances to all the families of the Nimrod crew and squadron mates; it will be a tough event for all to shoulder; but I know they'll manage somehow. (This is the first I've heard of the Nimrod angle; no doubt the press is taking the weekend off.) Best wishes to all concerned in handling this horrid tragedy.

British servicemen & women are expendable....that's what they get paid for.
Career Welfare leeches are simply disadvantaged citizens....that's what they get paid for.
