Orla

Still no response from the BBC on Orla Guerin.

What exactly is the point of the BBC’s much-publicised new Editors’ Blog? Seems like another waste of licence payers’ money to me.

Further to this, here's a little collection of Orla "They came..." intros (mp3, 30 secs). And just for good measure, here's a recent Fergal Keane one too. It must be module 1 of the BBC's "How to be a Foreign Correspondent" course.

It seems you have a serious problem with the BBC (or any media) showing the victims of war. Don't give me the spin, that the main stream media never shows Israeli victims or is biased against Israel, you only make a fool of yourself, as anyone who cares to watch this can see.
And don't you dare try to equate criticism of Israel with antisemitism. Doing so is to desecrate the memory of the vicitms of antisemitism, and in particular of the Holocaust.

They came in their thousands to protest equating old anti-Semites with new and improved ones. Some of their best friends are Jews so they can't possibly be Jew-hating scum. In fact, they say that by pointing out their anti-Semitism makes you an anti-Semite and even a Holocaust denier. They can suck my dick.

Er . . to (more or less) quote the president of a well-known Muslim country - "What Holocaust?" Obviously not one of Jez' closest friends but on the same side even so.

Too right Max. I love Jez’s logic – (paraphrase) “The Beeb is not guilt of REAL anti-Semitism, ‘cos they’re not putting people on trains!”

Hey Jez, I didn’t realise racism was a sliding scale. Surely any form of racism is purely a state of mind, a perspective. Violence and exclusion are simply MANIFESTATIONS of this ‘perspective’. They are symptoms. We are not equating the Beeb’s symptoms with the Nazis’. In fact, we aren’t equating anyone with the horrors of the Holocaust – you did that. All we are saying, is regardless of how it manifests, racism is wrong. Period.

So don’t you mention desecration of anyone’s memory. If you had any knowledge or understanding of any victims or survivors of the Holocaust, you’d know they’d be aghast if they thought anti-Semitism were creeping into the mainstream and no one were to protest.

Oh and here's Fergal denying 1. that he called Qana a massacre and 2. that Qana didn't happen.

Fergal uses the well known tactic of denying the (in this case) unimportant and avoids the real issue which is that Qana was used and perverted by Hizballah into a death-porn photo(shop) opportunity and Fergal and all the other "cry me a river journalists" went along with it.

Jez is right.

The Israeli government deserves to be criticised for the way it has conducted this war. It has lost the PR war decisively and failed in other areas too.

He is therefore correct in asserting that "criticism of Israel" does not equate to anti-Semitism.

BTW...

Don't you dare try to equate criticism or ridicule of Islam with 'Islamophobia' or 'racism'.

Islam may display medievalism, bellicosity, intransigence, fatalism, hysteria and dishonesty but that does not mean that Muslims also display these characteristics.
