Orla Watch

The Guardian has been following today's goings-on at the BBC Editors' Blog:
Particular criticism has been levelled at BBC correspondent Orla Guerin. Bloggers have compared comments she made in a recent report about the Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil, in which she said it had "really been wiped out", with those of Channel 4's Alex Thomson, who said that even though the centre had been "destroyed on a really wholesale scale", the suburbs had been "pretty much untouched".
Not quite the full story, but at least it's a mention.

And from Richard Littlejohn today:
What if we were to have fought World War II under the same rules which apply to the war on terror?

While V2 rockets rained down on London, the Manchester Guardian would be calling Britain's response "disproportionate" and demanding Bomber Harris be prosecuted for war crimes.

There'd be no internment camps on the Isle of Man. Instead, ministers would meet leaders of the alienated German "community" to hear their demands for a Bank Holiday to commemorate the Fuhrer's birthday and the introduction of Waffen SS patrols in German neighbourhoods.

There would be protests about shooting down Messerschmitt pilots, whose only offence was "flying while German".

As the tanks rolled in to Berlin, Orla Guerin would be filmed standing in Hitler's bunker, tears streaming down her cheeks, complaining about civilian casualties.

Meanwhile, Churchill would be floating around the Caribbean on Dame Vera Lynn's catamaran, We'll Meet Again.

He did say he'd fight them on the beaches.

Right on, Littlejohn.....but a fat lot of good it will do you. Why? Because The Sceptr'd Isle of those long-gone days was inhabited by a very different breed of people. They had pride, guts & love of country.
Today's Septic Isle has none of those qualities. An utter & shameful travesty.
I love the land that was my fathers' but I will never return. I would be a complete stranger.

Wrong. We're the same people as we ever were. That is; gentle, tolerant, indifferent to fanaticism, slow to anger and quick to forgive. But. You needle us enough and we can transform ourselves into the worst nightmare imaginable by those who oppose us.

How many times do we have to hammer this point home through the skulls of the pillocks who oppose us? Hmm?

And how many times do we have to point out that calling a country that did all of the above 'septic' isn't smart? A good thing you are a permanent expat -- If you were here right now, you'd be picking your teeth up off the floor.

Congratulations! At long last I've been able to raise somebody's hackles enough that they wish to practice their dentistry skills...on me.
So, you are 'gentle, tolerant, indifferent to fanaticism, slow to anger & quick to forgive' (Tell that last one to the Germans)
I am really glad you're angry. After all, the still unacknowledged enemy is within the gates...bringing chaos to air traffic, blowing up public transport, killing & maiming the citizenry, openly threatening mayhem on the streets.....and you want to knock MY teeth out?
Criticism is sometimes hard to take, especially when there's an element of truth to be faced.
'We can turn ourselves into the worst nightmare imaginable' Are you kidding? You are busy at present constructing a nightmare for yourselves in your own green & pleasant land. 'We are the same people as we ever were' Really? The rest of the world doesn't seem to think so.
Your reference to the tyrants & bad guys of history is laughable in the present context. Quote but ignore, eh?
You are in clear & present danger but prefer to wear blinkers, like Chamberlain, and ignore it.
Despite being old enough to have fought in WW2 I still have my own teeth...and intend to keep them.
Grow up & get real.

Well, alright. That was, perhaps, a little uncalled for. Sorry.

But, damnit! you go around calling Britain 'septic', what do you expect? Although you clearly despise us so much you walked out, there are still plenty of Brits who actually love their country. Seriously, you bitter, old Tories are just as much of a menace as the left -- You feel nothing but contempt for Britain, and for all your huffing and puffing, use the same language and have the same disgusting, anti-British attitudes as the freaks running around with Hezbollah flags.

If you're imputing that I don't love my country you are a tad off mark...I fought for my country in WW2, volunteering while others waited for their callup...(but that's no big deal)
Your diatribe is full of assumptions. I am most certainly not a bitter old Tory (LOL) nor a blinkered young Lib/Lab supporter. I do not have contempt for Britain, only for those who are legislating it into oblivion & those who elected a useless gumment & corrupt legislature into power no less than three times. I DO have contempt for those who continue to accept this flawed status quo & are allowing the destruction of the 'green & pleasant land'
There are wake-up calls aplenty & all are ignored.
Get angry...good. But direct your anger at those at home who are selling your birthright down the drain..it may soon be too late.

It is a big deal, and I am genuinely sorry for insulting you -- I clearly misread you (my mental image of permanent expat was of a 40-something who'd stomped out of Britain because they took his fox-hunting away from him). Anyway, truce?

If you would like to take a look at the current 'City Journal' you will find a review by Theodore Dalrymple of David Fraser's book, "Real Crime, Fake Justice"
If ever you are looking for only ONE reason for my using the 'Septic Isle' epithet, you will find it here :-)

Rottweiller is a sham of a true Briton. Attacking our proud institutions like the BBC and libelling fine reporters like Orla Guerin whose hard hitting reports are a beacon in this war of words and distortions.
If yoy want real ferocious bias watch FOX News or the Jerusalem Post.
